My opening gambit is actually a perfect summarisation of how I have felt about listening to Kendrick Lamar‘s new record, good kid m.A.A.d city, taken from a YouTube comment – ‘Its like the first time that I heard the Chronic’. Perhaps a more apt example for myself would be Outkast‘s Stankonia, but the same analogy applies.

I have very much been late in finally getting around to dedicating listening time to Kendrick, with only ‘Swimming Pools (Drank)’ and ‘A.D.H.D’ entering my ears. A mixture of watching the Dr Dre protege from Compton be ‘passed the torch’ (link) and rave reviews from across the blogosphere meant that today was the day to travel to Spotify for a concentrated listen. An empty office provided the perfect environment.

Apart from a very embarrassing incident with rather too loud speakers and a postman, today has been a good day, thanks very much to Kendrick Lamar.

N.B. ‘Sing About Me, I’m Dying of Thirst’ would have to be my favourite track, just thought twelve minutes was rather excessive for a SOTD post.
