What else would you want from a Friday Song of the Day post, then a bit of sweet modern electrofunk/funktronica? Yes, both terms are equally applicable.
Spearheaded back into the mainstream pretty much single-handedly by Chromeo‘s sophomore 2007 release, Fancy Footwork, the electrofunk movement of recent years has created a plethora of unsung talent pining after the Canadian duo’s success.
Cameo were arguably the founders of blending George Clinton-esque soul with poppy, synth-driven hooks. I was only recently informed that Cameo in fact played at the Jazz Cafe in London last night, which in turn has led me to vent my frustration at missing this gig by blasting out selected electrofunk hits.
However, instead of terrorising the Musika faithful with a rendition of ‘Word Up’, I’ve decided to pick out one of those said unsung heroes, and provide a track from a Nick Monaco mix I was gratefully introduced to recently (Subwoofers & Sandals).
This is Enois Scroggins (the name speaks for itself) & Carmen. Take your time, and enjoy your Friday.
