The latest offering from US electro-pop band Birds & Batteries, ‘Be My Girl’, comes with a truly beautiful video directed by James Sharpe, whose style has a washed out, organic feel that beautifully complements Mike Sempert’s haunting voice.
The video centres around a nude Earth mother figure as cities and forests spring up on her. Director James said of the video “Using the human body as a canvas, I wanted to create a beautiful and haunting visual narrative portraying a conflict between nature, architecture and the body, ultimately representing love and acceptance, whatever the imperfections.”
‘Be My Girl’ is the lead track from their fourth album, Stray Light, released on Eightmaps. A beguilingly contrasting mix of themes: rural/urban, analog/digital, nature/technology all serving as a canvas for a rich musical tapestry of dance, rock, country, indie, and electro-pop.
The band is almost unclassifiable, but after one listen, there’s a good chance you’ll be recommending them to anybody you know. They are currently on tour in the US.
