If you like your beats freshly boxed, then September 22 2012 will be an embarrassment of riches as Soundcrash presents Beardyman, touching down at KOKO for a late show.

Hip-hop heads can drool over the don of one of the five disciplines, but really, anybody with working ears will not fail to be entertained by this world beatboxing champion. Beardyman is a quietly stealthy, mouth music making machine. Earlier this year he caused mucho hilarity guesting on the Peter Serafinowicz 6Music show, unleashing characters, aural gymnastics and a truly warm, funny persona.

His status is well confirmed having toured extensively, supporting the likes of Groove Armada, appearing at countless festivals and performing with the Beardyman Freestyle Orchestra – a group of musicians chosen for their improvisational and compositional abilities. Not dissimilar to the legendary improvised performances by The Bays.

This DIY ethic should make for a mindblowing evening of scintillating sonics. Who knows what we’ll get. He has said though that “to be clear, all gigs from now on feature no kaoss pads. My set-up is now three iPads, one laptop and a looper built in C++ ”. Check out his YouTube channel and join the millions who have viewed his videos, including his kitchen diaries, which were, ahem, ‘homaged’ in a hobnobs ad, causing a stir in the beatboxing community!

Reggie Watts at the Roundhouse this year, Michael Winslow (of Police Academy) over for gigs. Damn, the beatboxing force is strong. Make like a teenager, grab a hairbrush, pretend it’s a mic and make the music with your mouth, because, you will be inspired.
