I took a listen to Grasscut‘s new album Unearth when it came in for review. Each track on album is inspired by a location in Britain. It will be released on Ninja Tune on July 16th. One of favourite tracks on the album is ‘From Towns and Fields’.

This week has been all about the upbeat and super-happy sounds of the singer and multi-instrumentalist Kishi Bashi.

Slugabed often gets compared, somewhat unfairly, to Rustie and Hudson Mohawke. Perhaps it’s the shared appreciation for 8-bit synths and glittery pads? I’d say he’s a solid producer in his own right – and I’d also say his recent Time Team LP is better than any full-length album Rustie and HudMo have managed thus far.

Progressive folk band, Nish as Rish, released their debut album last year and I have been revisiting it this week. Slipping easily from quiet and sleepy numbers to upbeat and infectious. ‘The Chanter’s Tune’ captures both these moods perfectly (you won’t find it on the album, so listen here!).

I’ve been listening to the beat of ‘Bad Girls’ by M.I.A, who recently signed a big contract with Def Jam Records.
